How to sell wholesale cannabis to Rhode Island dispensaries

In Rhode Island a licensed cultivator sells wholesale to the compassion centers that run the state’s dispensaries. The Cannabis Control Commission lists 9 of them and 55 licensed cultivators, and its Metrc dashboard counted $39,623,625 of wholesale transfers from January 1 to September 30, 2026, against $91,704,829 of retail sales. Those figures were read from the state’s published pages on October 15, 2026. The rest of this guide is how a cultivator turns them into orders.

What this page is

A selling guide for licensed Rhode Island cultivators, built on figures the Cannabis Control Commission publishes. Every number on this page is the state’s own published value with the date WeedShelf read it.

It is a selling guide, not a price list. The state publishes wholesale dollars and quantities, not the price any one store pays, and WeedShelf does not publish its customers’ prices, orders or menus.

Read our sources and methodology for the distinction between market observations, practical guidance and illustrative examples.

Who buys wholesale cannabis in Rhode Island?

The buyers are the state’s licensed compassion centers. The Cannabis Control Commission lists 9, and each one runs retail. Another cultivator can also buy, which is why the state counts cultivator to cultivator sales as wholesale too.

6 of the 9 list a hybrid grow license, so they can also sell product they grow themselves; 3 list none. Either way, ask each buyer what their shelf is missing, not what they already carry.

See which brands each monitored store lists, and its category mix, in the Rhode Island dispensary profiles.

How big is the Rhode Island wholesale market?

From January 1 to September 30, 2026 the state’s Metrc dashboard counted $39,623,625 of wholesale transfers and $91,704,829 of retail sales, with an average retail transaction of $35.63.

Rhode Island wholesale transfers by month, as published by the Cannabis Control Commission, read October 15, 2026
MonthWholesale transfers
January 2026$4.08M
February 2026$3.71M
March 2026$4.82M
April 2026$4.69M

June 2026$4.49M
July 2026$4.28M
August 2026$4.30M
September 2026$4.67M

The state defines affiliated transfers as moves inside a vertically integrated compassion center, which do not typically carry a cost, and unaffiliated transfers as sales from one licensed business to another. The dashboard’s dollar total is the state’s figure as published; WeedShelf has not adjusted it.

How many cultivators compete for those buyers?

The Cannabis Control Commission lists 55 licensed cultivators, and its cultivator page says the application period is closed. That is 55 licensed cultivators against 9 licensed compassion centers. What a buyer remembers is the seller who made ordering easy: a current menu, clear sizes and prices, and a follow-up that refers to what they actually looked at.

What a Rhode Island buyer needs before ordering

  • What is available now, with the quantity you can actually ship. A buyer who orders something you sold yesterday remembers it.
  • The retail size and the price for it, per jar, per pack or per cartridge, not per pound alone.
  • Lab status for the batch, and the certificate of analysis when it is ready.
  • Minimums and delivery days, stated once and kept.

The full checklist is in what dispensary buyers need on a wholesale cannabis menu. Buyers check lab reports too: the COA checklist for buyers is the list they work from.

How to follow up with the buyers who looked

Send each buyer the menu, then call the ones who opened it, about the products they opened. That is the whole method, and it works because 9 compassion centers is a list a cultivator can know by name. How to follow up with dispensary buyers covers what to say.

WeedShelf does the record keeping: it reads your inventory from METRC, gives each dispensary its own private link to a live wholesale menu, and shows you who opened it, what they viewed and what they put in the cart. When they order, it prepares the METRC transfer for you to dispatch.
