Massachusetts cannabis prices: what the state publishes, and why there is no wholesale figure
Massachusetts does not publish a wholesale cannabis price. What its Cannabis Control Commission does publish is an average adult-use retail price per gram, every month since November 2018: $14.17 then, $4.13 in August 2025 and $3.81 in August 2026, read from the CCC’s open data on October 15, 2026. A cultivator pricing wholesale in Massachusetts works back from that shelf price and the store’s margin. This page shows the published series and how to use it.

What this page is
A pricing guide for licensed Massachusetts cultivators, built on the Cannabis Control Commission’s own open data, quoted as published with the date it was read. WeedShelf computes no price or average of its own here.
The worked example is hypothetical arithmetic, labeled as such. Retail price is not wholesale price, and no WeedShelf customer’s prices or orders appear on this page.
Read our sources and methodology for the distinction between market observations, practical guidance and illustrative examples.
Is there an official Massachusetts wholesale cannabis price?
No. The Cannabis Control Commission’s open data, read October 15, 2026, publishes retail sales, retail price per gram, license records and lab results, but no wholesale price series. A wholesale price per pound quoted for Massachusetts does not come from the state’s open data.
The state does publish the price the shelf sets. Its series titled “Average Monthly Price per Ounce for Adult-Use Cannabis” reports the average retail price per gram each month, and it is the one public number every Massachusetts buyer is pricing against.
What the state’s retail price per gram shows
| Month | Average retail price per gram |
|---|---|
| August 2019 | $14.24 |
| August 2020 | $14.39 |

| August 2023 | $5.95 |
| August 2024 | $4.91 |
| August 2025 | $4.13 |
| August 2026 | $3.81 |
The series starts at $14.17 in November 2018. It was $13.76 in August 2021 and $3.81 in August 2026; every August between is in the table above.
| Month | Average retail price per gram |
|---|---|

| February 2026 | $4.04 |
| March 2026 | $4.03 |
| April 2026 | $3.89 |

The Commission’s data page does not say which products the average covers. Treat it as a market-wide reading: a single product’s shelf price can sit far from it in either direction.
How to work back from a shelf price to a wholesale price
A store decides what it can pay from what it can charge. Ask the buyer for the shelf price they plan for your product and the margin they need, then do the arithmetic with them.
Most a store can pay = planned shelf price × (1 − target gross margin). In a hypothetical case, a store that plans to sell a 3.5 gram jar for $30 and needs a 50% gross margin can pay up to $15. If it runs that jar at $25 on promotion and still wants the margin, the ceiling falls to $12.50, so a cultivator quoting $15 has priced into the promotion.
Use the state’s retail series for direction, not for the number: it says how far the shelf has moved, while the buyer’s own planned price says what this store can pay. The same arithmetic, worked for buyers, is in how to compare wholesale cannabis offers.
Who a Massachusetts cultivator sells to
The Cannabis Control Commission’s license tracker, updated October 6, 2026, lists 407 active retailer licenses that have commenced operations, 112 product manufacturers and 124 cultivators, with 32 more cultivator licenses active but not yet operating. These are license counts; one business can hold several.
With that many licensed stores, a Massachusetts cultivator cannot call every buyer every week. Knowing which buyers opened your menu, and what they looked at, is how to choose the calls worth making.
Selling when the shelf price keeps falling
- Quote in the store’s unit. A price per jar or per pack against their shelf price is easier to accept than a price per pound.
- Keep the menu current. A buyer who orders what is gone, or misses what just arrived, buys from someone else.
- Follow the attention. A buyer who opened your menu twice this week and looked at one strain is the call to make first.
- Price the batch, not the category. Lab results and freshness separate a product from the state average.
The menu checklist is in what dispensary buyers need on a wholesale cannabis menu, and the follow-up method in how to follow up with dispensary buyers.
Does WeedShelf work in Massachusetts?
Yes, by request. Massachusetts licensees track product in Metrc, and WeedShelf is built on METRC: it reads a cultivator’s live inventory, gives each buyer a private wholesale menu link, records who opened it and what they viewed, and prepares the METRC transfer template from an order for the cultivator to dispatch. Rhode Island is live today; Massachusetts cultivators can request access.
Sell with WeedShelf
WeedShelf turns your METRC inventory into a live wholesale menu for each dispensary and shows who opened it.
